Christina Tung Wai
Biography
Tung Wai, Christina is a Hong Kong contemporary Feather Art artist and a curator. Currently she serves as an Honorary Fellow at the STARS Residential College of the HK Polytechnic University and Member of PolyU Artists’ Alliance. She is a Creative Arts Fellow of the Asian Creative Education Association. She also holds positions as a Standing Committee Member of the Hong Kong Modern Ink Painting Society, a Researcher at the Xu Beihong Art Committee, and the Academy of Contemporary Ink Art at the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts. Additionally, she is a member of the Hong Kong Artists Association and the Hong Kong Guangzhou Arts Association.
In 2010, she began studying under the renowned ceramic artist Janet Tso King. She later learned painting from ink-and-color master Lam Tian Xing and Lingnan School master Lin Hu Kui, and studied calligraphy under esteemed calligraphers Cheung Sung Kwo, Bai He, Shi Yu Huang, and Yung Ho Yin. In 2019 and 2025, she completed advanced studies at the Contemporary Ink Artists Summit Program of the Research Institute of the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts. Currently, she is furthering her artistic practice under the guidance of master Liu Guosong, known as the "Father of Modern Ink Painting," and the renowned oil painter master Liu Cheng Mui.
Since 2018, Christina Tung Wai has held a total of nine solo exhibitions in Russia, Beijing and Hong Kong.
In 2018, she held her first and second solo exhibitions at the Russian Academy of Fine Arts Museum and Molbert Art Gallery in St. Petersburg, Russia. Later that year, nominated and invited by the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Hong Kong and the Hong Kong-Russia Association, she held her third solo exhibition “Inspiration” at Cheer Bell Gallery. Her work “Noble Aspiration” was collected by the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Hong Kong.
In 2021, she held her fourth exhibition, “Birds of a Feather” at Cheer bell Gallery.
In 2022, she held her fifth & sixth solo exhibitions “Odyssey of Feather”at Hong Kong City Hall & Fine Art Asia respectively.
In 2023, she held her seventh solo exhibition “Odyssey of Feather”at AsiaWorld–Expo, Hong Kong.
In 2024, she held her eighth solo exhibition at the 24th International Art Expo Beijing 2024 at Beijing Exhibition Center, China.
In 2025, she held her ninth solo exhibition “Feathers in the heart of the Universe”– Christina Tung Wai Solo Art Exhibition at the Yidege Art Museum in Beijing, China.
2020 also marked a milestone in Christina Tung Wai’s artistic career.
Her work “Anti-coronavirus” was featured for the online exhibition in “Beijing International Art Biennale, Fighting with Love Anti-coronavirus Series (HK)”. Her work “Propitious Portent” was selected as one of the 500 masterpieces worldwide in Global Ink Painting Exhibition.
In the same year, she won the Footwear Design Award co-organized by the Italian luxury brand Salvatore Ferragamo & the Hong Kong Art Gallery Association (HKAGA). The hand-painted shoes created by Christina Tung Wai were later exhibited in July at the Phillips 20th Century and Contemporary Art, Paintings, Design, Jewellery and Watches Auction at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong, and collected by Salvatore Ferragamo.
Subsequently, in 2020 and 2021, she was nominated and included in Chinese Contemporary Art Documents and China “She” Art respectively.
In 2021, “Rainbow Life” now renamed to be “Dynasty” was selected to be exhibited at Art Basel , HK.
In 2023, her works “Propitious Portent”, “All I Have to Do Is Dream” & “Made in Heaven” won the First Prize in the 2023 Golden Bauhinia Cup New Ink Painting Competition.
In 2024, her work “Close to You” was selected for the 3rd Asian Art Biennale and won the Excellence Award.
In 2025, she was granted as the most Collectible Artist at Guangdong International Art Week 2025. Her work “ Close to You” was selected to be exhibited at Collect HK 2025.
In 2026, both “Virtues of Water” & “Tides at Qiantang River Series-Resonance” were selected to be exhibited at Collect HK 2026.
The signature work “ Infinity” was selected for the 61st Int’l Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, Italy.
Throughout her career as an artist since 2011, Christina has taken part in over 70 international and overseas joint expositions and exhibitions, with hosting places in the mainland China like Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing, as well as other places like France, Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, etc. Her works came under the collection of various financial institutions and collectors around the world.
